Music that stays in the background
Study music works best when you stop noticing it. That usually means no lyrics, nothing sudden, and nothing that ends. A study video or playlist does end, or an ad cuts in, and that is the moment you look up from the page.
Neverloop composes the music as it plays. This page starts on Reading, the sparsest mood: long chords on warm pads and electric piano, few notes, a low rumble under them. Nothing is recorded and nothing repeats, so it can run for a whole evening of revision.
Moods
- Reading: at its sparsest, for text that needs all your attention.
- Deep coding: brown noise in front and steady chords under it, for problem sets and notes.
- Night desk: slower and darker, with a deep rumble, for late revision.
- Writing in the rain: farther away, with rain on the window, for essays.
Study in rounds
Press 25 + 5 × 4 or 50 + 10 × 4. The music plays while you work and rests in the breaks, and at the end of a round it settles on its last chord instead of ringing an alarm.
Prefer a beat?
The lo-fi page plays Lo-fi Desk: a swung beat and jazz chords, composed live too. If you would rather have no music at all, try brown noise or rain.
Questions
- Does music help you study?
- It depends on the person and the task. Many people find quiet music without lyrics easier to study to than silence or a noisy room. We make no claims about memory or the brain: try it and see.
- Why no lyrics?
- Words compete with what you are reading or writing. This page plays only instrumental music: chords, a soft melody, bells now and then.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The player on this site is free, with no sign-up and no ads.
Neverloop for Mac
The same music in an app: plays in the background and with the screen locked, works offline, and adds Lo-fi Desk without a break, focus cycles you build yourself, a breathing mode with a pacer, and saved variations.
